OLOT MEATS GROUP’s latest innovation is focused on the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a new generation of renewable aviation fuel. This initiative positions the Group as a pioneer within Spain’s meat industry by transforming residual animal fats into a sustainable energy source that supports the decarbonisation of air transport.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a renewable alternative to the conventional jet fuel used in aviation.
Unlike traditional aviation fuel, SAF is produced from sustainable feedstocks rather than fossil crude oil, with the objective of significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and other greenhouse gases. Depending on the production pathway, it can reduce lifecycle net CO₂ emissions by up to 80%.
Its chemical composition is very similar to that of conventional jet fuel, allowing it to be used in existing aircraft engines and airport infrastructure without requiring technical modifications.
OLOT MEATS GROUP will produce SAF from residual animal fats, a by-product of the meat industry. This initiative gives new life to these materials by transforming them into a high-value renewable fuel, advancing the principles of the circular economy while maximising resource efficiency and creating added value within the Group.
The project supports the international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that began with the Kyoto Protocol, adopted in 1997 and in force since 2005. It also aligns with European and global policies aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of transport and advancing the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Within this framework, the European Union has introduced a progressive mandate for the incorporation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into the aviation fuel supply. The mandatory blending requirement began at 2% in 2025 and will increase gradually over the coming decades, reaching 70% by 2050.
This transition will play a key role in decarbonising the aviation sector, supporting international climate commitments, and progressively reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Through this project, OLOT MEATS GROUP reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the circular economy, aligning its activities with the global objectives of the energy transition. At the same time, it helps reduce the environmental impact of the aviation sector, strengthens the Group’s competitiveness, and creates new opportunities for sustainable regional development.
