Olot Meats receives supervision from a team of official veterinarians attached to the Generalitat de Catalunya Public Health Agency, and nine veterinary technicians who perform the ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections.
The final decision on the meats rests with the official veterinarians, who also carry out audits and controls across the entire process (animal welfare, best practices, hygiene, etc.), all based on the quality management, prerequisite and self-monitoring systems introduced into the company.
The animals are transported from locations outside of our facilities, adhering to the established timeframes and under the agreed conditions. Transportation must take place in full compliance with the requirements set out in Regulation (EC) No 1/2005, and Olot Meats must log all supervised unloadings (the vehicle’s condition, space allowances, cleanliness, etc.). Drivers, as well as all attendants working in the pens, must hold a certificate of competence stating that they have received training in handling live animals. Olot Meats performs its own in-house inspections regarding animal welfare, accredited by duly authorised certification bodies. (Protocols for animal welfare assessment in slaughterhouses by the IRTA and based on the criteria established under the “Welfare Quality” project).
We market our products in a variety of formats, but always according to customer-specific needs. This may be either fresh, frozen or salted (when referring to casings). Our frozen products come in a 10 kg cardboard box, in poly block and also bare block form. Regardless of the format used, each and every dispatched product should be stored correctly, kept at the right temperature and clearly labelled. When it comes to boxed packaging, we have sought a design that uniquely identifies the brand Olot Meats.
Hiring the right people is key to our strategy and way of working. By combining their knowledge and expertise with our business model, we are able to create dynamic and responsible business relationships with far-reaching benefits.
At Olot Meats we look after our team members and are committed to helping them develop professionally and personally in all areas of the business, providing both security and stability.
